FAMILY BREWING

– est. 2016 –

Starting in 2016, the father and son duo started with the same idea and gear that the majority of homebrewers begin with; a kettle, plastic bucket and passion.

Six months after the first beer was in a bottle, they decided that though they believed they had made good brews, the only way to know is to have a certified judge actually taste and critique each one.  In August of the same year, Dave Dave took 3 medals (Gold – Blonde Ale, Silver – IPA, Bronze – English Golden Ale) at the Beehive Brew Off, Utah’s largest homebrewing competition.

The main focus of Dave Dave is to create brews they enjoy.  Although the craft beer industry has moved to IPAs, Special IPAs, New England IPAs, IPAs and IPAs, Dave Dave focuses on around 20 different styles.  They found early on that each brew day was a learning experience, from the brewing process to racking and bottling.  The excitement of discovery keeps driving them to develop new recipes and beers that not only represent traditional styles but keep the traditions alive.  Never seeking to be trendy but mindful of the path the “Old School” brewers paved.

Fast forward two years, Dave Dave Brewing has collected over 18 medals including a Gold Medal at the National Homebrew Competition in 2017.

BREWING IN UTAH

Those who have never visited Utah usually have a different perspective on the alcohol laws.  It is true that the laws governing alcohol in Utah can be “interesting”, however, breweries can thrive here and the homebrewing community is as strong as any other.

In Utah we are allowed to brew 200 gallons of beer per year for a family.  We are not allowed to sell or distribute (even for free).  We are however allowed to provide a sample for evaluation, which allows for the homebrewing competitions.

Utah actually has a long standing history in beer production.

Yes, even Mormons brewed beer!
